This procedure describes how to create and enable a system message or a logon message for an RD Gateway server.

Membership in the local Administrators group, or equivalent, on the RD Gateway server that you plan to configure, is the minimum required to complete this procedure. Review details about using the appropriate accounts and group memberships at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=83477.

To configure messaging on RD Gateway
  1. On the RD Gateway server, open Remote Desktop Gateway Manager. To open Remote Desktop Gateway Manager, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, point to Remote Desktop Services, and then click Remote Desktop Gateway Manager.

  2. In the Remote Desktop Gateway Manager console tree, right-click the local RD Gateway server, and then click Properties.

  3. In the Properties dialog box for the RD Gateway server, on the Messaging tab, set messaging as follows:

    • To set a system message:

      1. Select the Enable system message check box.

      2. In the box under Enable system message, type the administrative message to be displayed to users.

      3. Select the date and time for the administrative message to be displayed by using the Start Time and End Time lists.

      4. To review the message before enabling it, click Preview. Verify the message and then click OK.

    • To set a logon message:

      1. To display a logon message to users, you first need to create and save the text to be displayed to users in a separate text file.

      2. Select the Enable logon message check box.

      3. Under Enable logon message, click Browse. In the Open dialog box, select the file to display to users, and then click Open.

      4. To review the message before enabling it, click Preview. Verify the message and then click OK.

  4. To limit connections to the Remote Desktop Connection client 7.0, select the Only allow connections from Remote Desktop Services clients that support RD Gateway messaging check box.

  5. Click OK.
