Use the following procedure to assign a personal virtual desktop to a user by using the Assign Personal Virtual Desktop Wizard in the Remote Desktop Connection Manager tool.

Important

Before you run the Assign Personal Virtual Desktop Wizard, ensure that a Remote Desktop Virtualization Host (RD Virtualization Host) server that is hosting virtual machines has been added in the Remote Desktop Connection Manager tool. For more information, see Add an RD Virtualization Host Server for RemoteApp and Desktop Connection.

Membership in the Account Operators group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to configure the properties of most domain user accounts. In some cases, membership in the Domain Admins group, or equivalent, is the minimum required. To assign a personal virtual desktop by using the Assign Personal Virtual Desktop Wizard
  1. On the RD Connection Broker server, open Remote Desktop Connection Manager. To open Remote Desktop Connection Manager, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, point to Remote Desktop Services, and then click Remote Desktop Connection Manager.

  2. In the left pane, expand RD Virtualization Host Servers, and then click Personal Virtual Desktops.

  3. In the center pane, in the Overview section, click Assign a personal virtual desktop. The Assign Personal Virtual Desktop Wizard starts.

  4. On the Assign Personal Virtual Desktop page, click Select User.

  5. In the Select User dialog box, in the Enter the object names to select box, specify the user to which you want to assign a personal virtual desktop, and then click OK.

    Note

    If you select a user who is already assigned a personal virtual desktop, you are prompted if you want to assign a different virtual machine to the user.

  6. In the Virtual machine box, select the virtual machine that you want to assign to the user, and then click Next.

    Note

    If you select a virtual machine that is already assigned to a user, you are prompted if you want to reassign the selected virtual machine to the specified user.

  7. On the Confirm Assignment page, review your selections, and then click Assign.

  8. On the Assignment Summary page, confirm that the assignment succeeded. If you want to assign another virtual machine to another user, click Continue, and you are taken back to the Assign Personal Virtual Desktop page. If you are finished, clear the Assign another virtual machine to another user check box, and then click Finish.
