You can disable a connection on the RD Session Host server so that no users can log on to the RD Session Host server by using that connection. You might want to disable all connections to the RD Session Host server when you are planning to take the RD Session Host server offline for maintenance or to install new applications.

Important

When you disable a connection on the RD Session Host server, all users using that connection to access the RD Session Host server will be immediately disconnected from the RD Session Host server. Before you disable the connection, you should send a message to users connected to the RD Session Host server to warn them that they will be disconnected from the RD Session Host server.

For more information about sending a message to a user connected to an RD Session Host server, see the topic "Send a Message to a User" in the Remote Desktop Services Manager Help in Windows Server 2008 R2.

Use the following procedure to disable a connection on the RD Session Host server.

Membership in the local Administrators group, or equivalent, on the RD Session Host server that you plan to configure, is the minimum required to complete this procedure. Review details about using the appropriate accounts and group memberships at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=83477.
