You can configure the location and size of the Distributed Transaction Coordinator (DTC) log file.

Caution

If you change the size of the DTC log file, the current log file is destroyed and a new log file is created. Before you alter the log file, verify that the existing log file can be deleted safely by ensuring that there are no transactions in the In Doubt, Cannot Notify Abort, or Cannot Notify Commit state. For more information about managing DTC log files, see DTC Log File Management (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=66753).

Important

Before you configure the log file, stop the DTC in the Services snap-in. If you do not stop the DTC, your attempt to reset the log file generates a DTC console message indicating that the DTC service needs to be stopped and restarted to perform the requested action.

Membership in Administrators, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.

To configure DTC logging
  1. Open Component Services.

  2. In the console tree, double-click Computers, Computer Name, and Distributed Transaction Coordinator.

  3. Right-click Local DTC, and then click Properties.

  4. To change the log file location, click the Logging tab. In Location, type the new path for the log file. If you do not know the full path, click Browse to select a log file location.

  5. To change the log file size, in Capacity, type the new log file size in megabytes (MB).

  6. Click OK.

Additional considerations

  • Component Services is no longer in Administrative Tools. To open Component Services, click Start. In the search box, type dcomcnfg, and then press ENTER.
