Logging events in Network Load Balancing (NLB) Manager is different than logging events that are generated by the NLB driver. NLB Manager records only events that are related to the use of NLB Manager. To view events related to the NLB driver, you must use Event Viewer.

You should always manage an NLB cluster from a trusted and secure computer, particularly when event logging is enabled. The NLB Manager log file contains potentially sensitive information about the NLB cluster and hosts, so it must be properly secured. By default, the log file inherits the security settings of the directory where it is created. You might want to change the explicit permissions on the file to Restrict read and write access for individuals who do not need full control. Be aware that the individual who is using NLB Manager does require full control of the log file.

You can also perform the task described in this procedure by using Windows PowerShell. For more information about using Windows PowerShell for NLB clusters, see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=140180.

When you are using Network Load Balancing (NLB) Manager, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the host that you are configuring, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. If you are configuring a cluster or host by running NLB Manager from a computer that is not part of the cluster, you do not have to be a member of the Administrators group on that computer.
