Connection Manager Logon Dialog Box

Use settings for

(This setting appears only if you have saved more than one configuration for this connection.)

Provides a list of dialing location configurations that apply to your current location.

You can have more than one dialing location available to your Connection Manager profiles. To create or modify a configuration for a different location, click Properties, configure the desired settings, and then at the bottom of the General tab, click New and type a name.

User name

Provides a location for you to type your user name on the remote network.

Password

Provides a location for you to type your password for authentication with the remote network. The password appears as dots to protect the confidentiality of your password.

Logon domain

Provides a location for you to type a logon domain for authentication with the remote network.

Save password

Specifies whether your password is saved and used automatically each time you connect to the remote network. Your administrator can disable this check box for security reasons.

	Caution
	If you select this check box, other people with access to this computer might be able to access the remote network by using your user name and password.

Connect automatically

Specifies whether to connect automatically when you open the logon dialog box. You cannot select this check box without first selecting the Save password check box. This option takes effect the next time you start the profile.

Save these credentials for my use only

Specifies that the password is saved so that it can be used by the currently logged-on user account only.

Allow anyone to use these credentials

Specifies that the password is saved so that it is accessible to any user on the local computer.

	Security Note
	If you select this check box, other people with access to this computer can access the remote network by using this user name and password.

Connection status

Displays the current status of the connection, and prompts you for any information you must provide to log on to the remote network.

Connect

Begins the connection process.

• For clients running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2: After you connect, the logon dialog box closes, and the connection appears on the network icon’s pop-up menu. To view the status of the connection, click the network icon in the notification area of the task bar. If the connection is active, it appears in the list with Connected next to its name. To see more detailed information, right-click the connection, and then click Status. To disconnect from the remote network, click the network icon, click Connection or disconnect, select the connection in the dialog box, and then click Disconnect.
  
  
• For clients running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008: After you connect, the logon dialog box closes, and the connection appears on the network icon’s pop-up menu. To view the status of the connection, click the network icon in the notification area of the task bar. If the connection is active, it appears in the list. To see detailed information, click Connect or disconnect, right-click the connection in the dialog box, and then click Status. To disconnect from the remote network, click the network icon, click Connection or disconnect, select the connection in the dialog box, and then click Disconnect.
  
  
• For clients running Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, or Windows 2000: After you connect, the logon dialog box closes, and an icon appears in the notification area of the taskbar. To view the status of the connection, double-click the notification icon. To disconnect from the remote network, right-click the icon, and then click Disconnect.
  
  

Cancel

Closes the logon dialog box without connecting. If a connection is in progress, clicking Cancel discontinues the connection attempt.

Properties

Displays the Connection Name Properties dialog box, which you can use to change your connection preferences, including dialing information and modem settings. The settings available depend on how your network administrator configured the Connection Manager profile.

Help

Displays this Help file or a custom help file, if the administrator has included one in the connection profile.
